We learned how to avoid probate, avoid paying an excess of taxes, and how to preserve our estate for our heirs. We so appreciate the way Stacey guided us through this process and making it so much easier for us to have this peace of mind. Thank you Stacey!”

Don't leave family in turmoil over not knowing how to close out you affairs, let alone trying to second guess your intentions. Having said that, I attended Stacey Walter's seminar on estate planning looking only for information and food for thought. Stacey presented such a clear and common sense approach to estate planning backed up by her in-depth legal knowledge that I found myself wanting to know specifics. Here's the kicker, I sensed a very strong "trust" with Stacey. So what did I do? I have developed a comprehensive estate and end of life plan with Stacey Walters and now have that gift in place for my family!"

To ensure that we had all the 'bases covered,' we decided to attend a breakfast information session with Stacey Walters to determine if further updates were necessary to our estate planning portfolio. In retrospect, not only did we not have all the answers, we began to feel uncomfortable with the questions, I.E. end of life decisions that everyone must make. Stacey Walters has a compassionate heart and feels 'called' to practice only planning and settling estates. When the final portfolio was available, Stacey spent significant time to explain any information, phrase, or detail that we did not understand. We have already recommended her to friends and family.

We sensed early on in our meeting we could trust her in dealing with matters important to us. She picked up quickly on our needs and described the manner in which they could be protected in a trust. Her communication left out legalese while she created a mental picture we could use to process the concepts we discussed. She was efficient while being respectful of our time and worked toward the completion of the trust in a purposeful manner. It was quite a pleasure to meet Stacey at her gathering. I found her to be very easy to understand, especially the way she converted each point into an easy to understand story. When I came to understand the possible loss of funds AND the time element that could evolve, the professionalism observed caused me to take steps to protect my estate. Thank you, Thomas Walters."
*Mr. Switzer, Raleigh, NCI have been associated with attorneys for a very long time and your marketing strategies are excellent. Once you retain the client, your return phone and text communications are timely and appreciated by the client. Your availability for in-office appointments is also timely and welcomed.
I do have a minor criticism. You need to customize and proofread the boilerplate documents before sending drafts to the client. The first draft of documents sent to me contained minimal personalized information. After our first in-office meeting, I sent to you an email with substantial additional information. That email was not read or forwarded to your assistant. Your assistant then typed in my name (and any other information known to her) and sent the documents to me. They were not individualized, contained a few typos and had formatting errors. It was clearly boilerplate to me and the documents were somewhat disappointing since they did not initially represent they were drafted with “my needs” in mind.
I know I have a more complicated situation than most people have so it took a couple of drafts to get the documents finalized but they were ultimately drafted to my satisfaction
I must compliment Duffy. Once he took over, he seemed to fully understand the complications, was extremely patient and knowledgeable. He paid close attention to detail which is an important factor in individualizing estate planning. He offered numerous times to research an answer to a question he did not readily know and advised me promptly. These are all signs of an excellent attorney.
The few times I called your office your staff was very pleasant and accommodating. Overall, I was pleased with your services and if the opportunity arises, I will recommend your firm to others.“My search for an established Estate Planner with a high level of professionalism and expertise led me to Thomas Walters, where I found both in abundance provided by Stacey Walters. She proved to be an unusually skilled communicator with the exceptional ability to simplify technical “legalese” for the uninitiated. Moreover, Stacey made special accommodations for my blindness without being asked to do so. It is further noteworthy that the office staff is friendly, attentive, and totally client-centered.
Consider me a highly satisfied client who will gladly refer family and friends to this company.
Thank you, Stacey!”
-Ms. McCord, Raleigh NC“We have found Attorney Stacey Walters extremely well qualified and very helpful and willing to answer all questions in an easy to understand manner. Without question, we would recommend her to all of our friends and coworkers.”
-Mr. & Mrs. Patterson, Cary NCStacey, many thanks for your superb job in creating my estate plan, will and trust. I also appreciate the instructions you included in my estate plan. My family is now much more comfortable now that our future is protected. Thanks again.
-Milo, Raleigh NCStacey Walters has developed a “Trust Class for Dummies”. She takes the client step-by-step through the development process and uses a wagon metaphor with which most can identify. She clearly explains each step and offers alternatives explanations when the first is not comprehended. When the process is over, the client walks away with a clean understanding of their trust and binder that contains the trust document and more plus guidance for those to follow once the client has passed.
Stacey is very professional, knowledgeable and personable. We look forward to a life long relationship with her and the Walters Group.
Recommendation: I am a visual learner. If there was a picture of the trust and its components and how they all fit together, that would be a big help to people like me.
-Mr. Carswell & Dr. Cannon, Raleigh NCWe would like to acknowledge the superior quality of estate planning provided, to us, by Stacey Walters. I’m looking forward to a long and personal /professional relationship with Stacey and her team. All the best,
-Mr. & Mrs. Keane, Cary, NCMrs. Walters is a client friendly attorney. Very helpful, competent, responsive and responsible. She and her assistant attorney, Ashley Kevitt, always responded to out queries readily and in a manner that’s easy to understand. The documents (estate planning) that she prepared for us were truly impressive. Suggesting a lawyer that is very experienced and knowledgeable, especially in the area of estate planning. There are two minor criticisms. First, I thought that the fees charges were a bit steep. Second, the drafting of the documents took a fairly long time.
Mr. And Mrs. Zarzar, Burlington, NCYou take your treasures when they need to be managed only to the most trusted, worthy individuals. We took our future and out financial successes to Stacey Walters. She has proven our choice to be correct. We could not be more confident in her skills and professional vision... Another great decision.
Mr. & Mrs. Mullins, Raleigh, NCDear Stacey,
We were so fortunate to meet you at one of your luncheons. Although we didn’t like the restaurant, we loved everything you educated us on. You have now eliminated our worries about passing our estate to my son, who is a special needs child, so our hard-earned money won’t be eaten up by taxes and court costs. Your assistant, Ashley, was equally up to the task, answering all our questions and concerns. We rate our experience with your firm A plus.

Margie Jordan, Wake Forest, NCVery pleased with the help I received in planning my Will.
Rose Nelson, Holly Springs, NCI had just moved to NC after the death of my husband. Thomas-Walters made setting up a trust fund for myself easy and affordable. I now feel more comfortable that my daughter and granddaughter are going to have it easier on my passing, whenever that may be.
Ms. Kathie Maccarella, Raleigh, NCStacey is very thorough and knowledgeable. Was concerned about protecting my assets and answered all my questions and concerns in a friendly and patient manner. She and her staff prepared and filled multiple documents. She is there to answer future questions and concerns.
Ms. Alice Hedley, Raleigh, NCWe especially appreciated the time and effort that Stacey spent to understand our unique situation and craft a customized solution that best fulfilled our special needs. Apart from her manifest legal competence, expertise and overall efficiency, Stacey was genuinely caring. So, our consultations with Stacey were like visits to a long-standing primary care doctor as opposed to a first visit to a new doctor. To extend the analogy, Stacey delivered outstanding medical care with exceptional bedside manner at Medicare costs, not private insurance. Thanks, Stacey. We got all that you promised and more. Your very satisfied customers,
Mr. & Mrs. McDonald, Raleigh, NCIn November 2018, I attended an Estate Planning Seminar in Raleigh, N.C. by the Thomas-Walters Estate Planning Attorneys. The speaker was Stacey Walters, a partner in the law firm. My first impression of Ms. Walters presentation was beyond what I expected. Extremely knowledgeable of her law practice and very facet of estate planning including probate issues. Ms. Walters explained everything in layman’s terms – very clear and precise. And I may add, a very personable and compassionate individual. I was so impressed with her presentation that I made an appointment to meet with heart her offices. We spoke in detail and proceeded to go forward with the estate planning. Upon my second appointment, I met with her associate attorney, Ashley Kevitt and went over the documents in draft. Ms. Kevitt is a soft-spoken woman and very patient with questions I raised. At my third appointment and nearing the completion of the estate planning, Ms. Kevitt sent me home with a “Client To-Do List” which meant getting the current assets into the Living Trust. A step-by-step list but easy to follow.
Overall, I was extremely happy with the Thomas-Walters Law Firm and would highly recommend attending one of Ms. Walters’ seminars. I think you would be very satisfied with her presentation and her follow up one-on-one personal meeting.
Ms. Rosalie Marinacci, Raleigh, NCWe are very pleased with the estate program and support from Stacey and Ashley. The up-front explanations, professional meetings and comprehensive plans are well done, clear and very helpful.
Mr. & Mrs. Hoit, Wake Forest, NCStacey provided excellent legal services. She did a superior job in creating a solid Will for myself. My former benefits from her competent help.
Mr. Robert Rainaldi, Huntersville, NCStacey and her staff were very informative and answered all of our endless questions with patience and knowledge. Explained the process throughout and “held our hands” until completion. We feel like we have a friend to fall back on to walk us through any future changes and challenges through the death of a parent/spouse. Easy to make appointments. Office was efficient and ready during our paperwork process. We feel secure working with Stacey. Thank you!
Mr. and Mrs. Spence, Cary, NCIf you are like me there is a subject matter I do not like thinking or talking about. The big question, what’s going to happen to my stuff after I die? If I must die. With convincing from my wife, she tied me up, tossed me in the car to meet with Stacey Walters.
In a meeting that lasted about an hour we started the process to put together our personal estate planning portfolio. She took her time and made the difficult questions just a bit easier to answer. End result, a complete binder to safeguard our assets and most importantly peace of mind. Don’t be afraid guys. Stacey will make the uncomfortable questions comforting and painless. Oh yea. Makes for a happy wife, happy life.

BIO
NOT YOUR ORDINARY ATTORNEY- STACEY R. WALTERS
I was raised by two wonderful parents, William ("Billy'') and Donna Riley, in the quaint town of Hillsborough, North Carolina. Growing up, I wanted to do everything: Girl Scouts; tap dance; ballet; cheerleading; track; theater; ceramics; water skiing and tennis, just to name a few. Early on I found that I loved helping other people. At the age of 13, I began volunteering at the OCIM thrift shop and later, at the Ronald McDonald House. I was instilled with a strong work ethic by my parents from an early age. By the time I was 16, I was working part-time at Duke Medical Center where I stayed for almost 9 years.
After graduating from Orange High School in Hillsborough, North Carolina, I attended Elon University, majoring in Biology. Looking to spread my love for community service, I helped found the first “service” sorority on Elon's campus--Epsilon Sigma Alpha. While I intended to go to medical school after college, I changed my mind after sitting as an alternate juror on a murder trial when I was 19 years old! I fell in love with the legal arena and the excitement and constant challenge of advocating for others!
After graduating Cum Laude from Elon University in 1992, I married my high school sweetheart and soulmate, Roland. While he was busy farming, I stayed active in the community, volunteering with the Make-A-Wish Foundation to help make the wishes of terminally ill children come true. We left my husband's family farm for Lansing, Michigan, where I then attended Thomas M. Cooley Law School, one of the largest law schools in the nation. I volunteered in the Elder Law Clinic and was an officer in the Student Government Association. I was an assistant editor of the Law Review and successfully argued on two National Moot Court Teams, among other accomplishments. While I had fun, I also worked hard and graduated law school in the top one-third of my class.
After passing the Michigan State Bar, I went on to clerk for an amazing judge who really taught me what being a lawyer was all about! Since I was accustomed to working longer work weeks, I became a litigation lawyer by day and a floral designer by night--a passion that I found before law school. I sought out causes allowing for me to volunteer my time within my community including Big Brothers Big Sisters and Junior League. Additionally, I served on the Michigan State Bar Character and Fitness Committee. On Saturdays you could find me connecting with the community through "Christ in Action" events, assisting by handing out free water or hot chocolate at parades, or other similar functions.
In 2005, after moving back to the family farm in Efland, North Carolina, I began practicing law in Greensboro, North Carolina, at the law firm of Teague, Rotenstreich, Stanaland, Fox and Holt. Shortly after, sadly, my father-in-law passed away. He had an older Will from 1968 that left his family in a mess--one that ripped the family apart! The highlight of that year though, was the birth of our amazing son, Evan. Then, in 2008, we were blessed with our beautiful daughter, Shayla. Shayla was born with a heart defect and when she was 5-months old, her heart stopped unexpectedly. As a result, she suffered a severe brain injury. She was left disabled and medically fragile. For me, it was a calling to focus my practice on preparing and protecting families for the unexpected life events and for the necessary end-of-life preparation: estate planning and trusts.
I left Greensboro for Mebane, North Carolina, where I opened my own law practice that included estate planning and probate. Later, as our values were aligned, I joined the firm of Rabalais Law, a multi-state law firm that focused solely on estate planning and helping people protect their families and assets. Then, in the summer of 2016, several of my partners and I broke off and re-organized our practice, which is now re-branded and known as Thomas-Walters, PLLC. Five managing partners (including myself), along with our associate attorneys, serve multiple states across the country. We have one focus--making estate planning and estate settlement comprehensive, yet simple and carefree, in order to ensure a family does not suffer through life changes.
In 2018, the unexpected happened once again when the Lord whisked our beloved Shayla away to heaven. While there is nothing that can replace the loss of a loved one, it has only strengthened the commitment of our practice to making sure that every family finds peace of mind before the unexpected occurs.
Our firm’s success is built on engaging with every client, prospective client, professional and advisor on a personal level and meeting their needs in a compassionate and meaningful way. We build a lifetime relationship with our clients while keeping in contact, free of charge, and by providing them with the comfort of knowing their estate plan. Our attorneys publicly speak on probate, estate planning, and wills and trusts more than 50 times a month. We schedule thousands of free consultations annually. We distribute more than 200 legal guides a month that give meaningful insight to those seeking knowledge on these matters. You see, we all know that education is key to families making the best decisions, and we love sharing knowledge with all whom we meet.
I am a member of the North Carolina Bar, and am actively licensed and in good standing. I am a member of the National Association of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA), the Elder Counsel and the Society of Financial Services Professionals (SFSP). In 2018, I was awarded the “10 Best Attorneys for Exceptional and Outstanding Client Services” by the American Institute of Legal Counsel. My unique perspective as a special-needs parent, coupled with my caring heart, drives me and our firm to educate and help families all over the country.
To me, nothing seems more unfair than for a family to lose all they have worked so hard for, especially after working so hard and paying for years into a government system that was intended to provide "…a comprehensive social insurance system covering all major personal economic hazards with a special emphasis on unemployment and old age insurance." (Pres. Roosevelt Exec. Order #6765, 1934) There must be a simpler, better way, and yes, it is all about learning what we don’t know, so everyone can make the best decisions for end-of-life planning. After all, aren’t we all called to be good stewards of what we have been given? My grandmother once said: “I’ve been getting old since the day I was born.” Nothing rang truer than those words. Certainly, none of us know when our time will come. We all need a plan, and I truly consider myself privileged to be able to assist families throughout Raleigh, Charlotte, Huntersville, Cornelius, Cary, Wake Forest, Fuquay Varina, Franklinton, Holly Springs, Apex, Pinehurst, Morrisville, Durham, Chapel Hill, Pittsboro, Hillsborough, Efland, Mebane, Graham, Burlington, Haw River, Elon, Roxboro, Greensboro, High Point, Winston-Salem and all of North Carolina!
